In an electro-hydraulic system the power steering assist comes from an electric motor rather than the vehicle's engine. In both cases, power steering hoses play a critical role in transferring the high-pressure power steering fluid that makes such systems possible. Power steering assemblies typically contain two or more power steering hoses that link the pump to the steering column and wheel.

With this design, the steering-wheel shaft connects to a gear assembly and a series of links/arms that turn the wheels to the left or right.
